About Tokyo Night Guide

Tokyo Night Guide is an English guide to going out after dark in Tokyo, written for people visiting Japan. We list bars, izakaya, ramen shops and other places that are open in the evening, with the practical details visitors usually have to guess at: opening hours, what a seat costs before you order, whether cards are accepted, and whether you can smoke.

Where we cover

The guide covers eight areas of Tokyo, with 150 places listed between them. Each one has its own page with the venues we have checked.

  • Ueno — Ueno, Okachimachi and Yushima, including the Ameyoko market street
  • Asakusa — the streets around Nakamise and Rokku
  • Shibuya — Dogenzaka, Udagawacho and Maruyamacho
  • Shinjuku — Kabukicho, Omoide Yokocho and Golden Gai
  • Roppongi
  • Ginza
  • Tsukiji — the outer market after the stalls have closed
  • Tsukishima — Monja Street

Some of our older guides were written when the site covered Ueno, Shinjuku and Shibuya only, and still read that way. We are working through them.
