Day 2 around Okachimachi

A second evening one station south, around Okachimachi. This is the drinking night: sake near cost price, a craft beer bar with twelve taps, and karaoke that does not close. Less walking than Day 1, more sitting.

17:00 — Start at 2nd COOPER

A ground-floor bar a minute from Okachimachi with forty-two seats, seven of them at the counter, and more than twelve taps alongside around eighty bottles. Entirely non-smoking, with the drinks list written in English.

  • Open 16:00–23:30, from 15:00 at weekends. Monday hours are not listed.
  • Groups of five or more should book; after 20:00 they ask you to call.

19:00 — Sake at Nihonshu Genka Sakagura

About forty kinds of sake sold near cost price, with private rooms, a counter and a floor you can take over entirely.

  • Open 15:00–23:30, from 12:00 at weekends.
  • There is a ¥540 entry fee per person instead of a cover dish, and no minimum order.
  • When it is busy, seats are limited to two hours.

21:00 — Skewers at Kushikatsu Tanaka

Battered, deep-fried skewers ordered one at a time, with menus in English, Chinese and Korean. Fifty-seven seats across counter, table, tatami and booth.

  • Open until 1:00 from Tuesday to Saturday.
  • Guests aged 20 or over pay a ¥319 cover charge each and must order at least one drink; a soft drink counts.
  • Under-20s may enter, including on their own. They are not served alcohol.
  • Do not dip a skewer twice. The sauce is shared by your group and thrown away after.

23:00 — Karaoke

Karaoke rooms around Ueno and Okachimachi run through the night. Manekineko has three branches here, all open 24 hours; Karaoke-kan’s Ueno 2nd branch runs until 9:00 the next morning.

Two things to know before you go in. Manekineko is members-only at every branch — registration takes one piece of photo ID and a passport is accepted, and one person in the group showing a card is enough. And anyone under 18 has to be out by 22:00, under 16 by 18:00.

If you would rather eat than sing

Isomaru Suisan is open 24 hours with 154 seats on the ground floor and free Wi-Fi, and Ichiran inside Atre Ueno never closes either — though it adds a late-night rate between 22:00 and 6:00.

Next: Day 3 crosses into Yushima for the late bars.
