The Dining — Chinois Karakurenai & Teppan French Makie/
THE DINING シノワ 唐紅花 & 鉄板フレンチ 蒔絵
Two kitchens on the twenty-seventh floor of the Asakusa View Hotel, about a hundred metres up: Chinese cooking under the name Karakurenai and French teppan cooking under the name Makie. Both work in courses, built around ingredients from around Japan, and both look out over the same view.
Dinner runs 17:00 to 21:00 with last orders at 20:00. Prices quoted already include a 10 percent service charge and tax, which is not always the case at this level.

- The anniversary plan is available with the French menu only.
- Courses change with the season and are not served over Christmas (19, 20, 24 and 25 December) or the new year (31 December to 3 January).
- Parties of four or fewer order from the regular course menu rather than the private-room plans.
Yoshikami/
ヨシカミ 浅草店
A yoshoku restaurant in the back streets of Rokku, open since December 1951. It started with ten seats at an open counter, and the building has not been rebuilt since 1960.
Beef stew is ¥3,400 and a hamburg steak ¥1,700. The sign outside carries the line the restaurant adopted around 1960, which translates roughly as "so good we apologise".
Good to know
- Closed on Thursdays.
- Last orders are at 21:00.
- Almost everything can be ordered to take away; the restaurant asks you to phone ahead.
HOBGOBLIN ROPPONGI/

A British pub in Roppongi 3-chome, open since the 2002 football World Cup. It has a long bar, a large seating area, imported wooden furniture, a smoking booth and two dart boards that are free to use. The food is British pub cooking: fish and chips, homemade pies, bangers and mash, and a traditional Sunday roast served from noon every Sunday with horseradish and mint sauce brought in from the UK.
Five large screens carry live Premier League football, rugby, F1, UFC and AFL, and the pub says it will try to show any game you ask for. It opens at 17:00 on weekdays and from noon at weekends, closing at midnight, with the kitchen stopping at 23:00.
