Description

Kushikatsu Tanaka serves Osaka-style kushikatsu, skewers coated in batter and deep-fried, in the Hyakkendana quarter five minutes from Exit A0 of Shibuya Station. Skewers run from ¥88 for a sausage to ¥352 for large prawn (tax included), and assorted sets of five or eight are also on the menu. The restaurant has 58 seats at counters and tables, free Wi-Fi and a PDF menu printed in English, Chinese and Korean. It stays open until 1:00 every night, and the house rule is that the shared sauce must not be dipped twice.

Good to know

  • Guests aged 20 or over pay a ¥319 (tax included) cover charge each, even without alcohol, and must order at least one drink.
  • Do not dip a skewer in the sauce twice. The sauce is shared within your group and discarded afterwards.
  • People under 20 can enter without an adult, but are not served alcohol. Staff may ask for identification.
  • Guests aged 19 and under can order a soft drink and play rock-paper-scissors with the staff; winning gets one free drink.
  • There is no smoking booth at this branch, and the official page does not say whether the seats are non-smoking.
  • Reservations can be made online at any time, and walk-ins are accepted, but booked guests are seated first.
  • The tips of the skewers are sharp.
  • No kids' chairs, no parking and no lunch menu.

Highlights

Skewers are ordered one by one, from ¥88 to ¥352 (tax included), and the sauce comes with free refills of cabbage. Each group's sauce is thrown away after the meal, which is why dipping twice is not allowed.
An assortment of eight standard skewers is ¥1,551 (tax included), and the shop's kasu udon is ¥858 (tax included).
The multilingual menu explains the Chinchirorin dice game: order a drink, throw two dice, and the total decides whether the drink is free, half price, double size or unchanged.
