What’s open late in Tokyo

This page answers one question: how late can you still be served in Ueno, Shinjuku and Shibuya? The hours below are the ones each venue publishes for itself, grouped by how far into the night they run. This page covers those three areas. The guide also covers Asakusa, Roppongi, Ginza, Tsukiji and Tsukishima, which are not counted below.

Eight places across these three areas are open 24 hours

Three of the eight are in Ueno, three in Shinjuku and two in Shibuya, and each has a condition attached. Two chains account for six of them, a seafood izakaya and a tonkotsu ramen counter with one branch in each area.

  • Isomaru Suisan Ueno 6-chome — 24 hours, every day of the year, three minutes from JR Ueno Station in the Ameyoko area, with 154 ground-floor seats, free Wi-Fi and a separate smoking booth. Dish prices are not published for this branch; the average evening spend is given as ¥2,500.
  • ICHIRAN Atre Ueno Yamashita-guchi — 24 hours, inside the station building at JR Ueno. Tonkotsu ramen is ¥1,180, ordered by ticking a paper sheet at one of 36 single booths. A late-night charge applies between 22:00 and 6:00 and the rate is not published.
  • Ramen Kamo to Negi — 24 hours, one minute from the North Exit of JR Okachimachi Station, with a broth made from duck, spring onion and water alone. It is cash only, with 19 non-smoking seats, and bookings are taken only Monday to Thursday between 11:00 and 21:00.
  • Isomaru Suisan Nishi-Shinjuku 1-chome No.3 — 24 hours, every day of the year, one minute and 244 metres from JR Shinjuku Station, with 93 seats, free Wi-Fi and a smoking booth with the rest of the seating non-smoking. Dish prices are not published for this branch; the average evening spend is given as ¥2,500.
  • ICHIRAN Shinjuku Chuo Higashiguchi — 24 hours, in the basement of the Peace Building three minutes from Shinjuku Station. Tonkotsu ramen is ¥1,180 and all 28 seats are single booths at the counter, with no tables. The same unpublished late-night charge applies between 22:00 and 6:00, and seats cannot be reserved.
  • Sugoi Niboshi Ramen Nagi Shinjuku Golden Gai Honkan — 24 hours, on the second floor of a building inside Shinjuku Golden Gai, with ten seats at an L-shaped counter. The broth blends more than twenty kinds of niboshi, dried sardines, from around Japan. Prices and accepted payment methods are not published, and with ten seats you may have to wait.
  • Isomaru Suisan Shibuya Udagawacho — 24 hours, every day of the year, five minutes from the Hachiko Exit of JR Shibuya Station, with 104 seats, free Wi-Fi and a smoking booth with the rest of the seating non-smoking. Dish prices are not published for this branch either; the average evening spend is given as ¥2,500.
  • ICHIRAN Shibuya — 24 hours, in a basement in Jinnan three minutes from the Hachiko Exit, next to Shibuya Marui JAM. Tonkotsu ramen is ¥1,180 and all 21 seats are single booths at the counter, with no tables. The same unpublished late-night charge applies between 22:00 and 6:00.

Beyond 3:00 the choice narrows, and it ends at 7:00 in Shibuya

If you want a drink after 2:00 rather than a bowl of noodles, these are the latest closing times published across these three areas. The latest of the three is Oreryu Shio-Ramen in Shibuya Center-gai, which serves until 7:00 in the morning every day. Two restaurants in Roppongi, which this page does not cover, run later still: TsuruTonTan until 8:00 and Mensyo Taketora until 9:00, both Monday to Saturday.

  • TORIKIZOKU Ueno Chuo-dori — until 5:00 every day, from 16:00 on weekdays and 13:00 at weekends. Every food and drink item is ¥410 including tax, and there is an English menu.
  • Bar LUKE and Chianti PoP — two bars a few seconds apart, both open until 4:30. LUKE opens at 19:00 and closes on Sundays; Chianti PoP opens at 18:00 and closes on Tuesdays. Five non-alcoholic cocktails are on the menu at ¥800.
  • Chiba-chan Ueno Ameyoko — until 5:00 on Friday and Saturday nights and 23:30 otherwise, with orders stopping at 4:00. A ¥473 table charge applies per person, and anything ordered after 22:00 carries 10% more.
  • SHIROKIYA Kabukicho Sohonten — 15:00 to 5:00 every day, on the fifth floor of a building in Kabukicho, with 479 seats, private rooms, karaoke, free Wi-Fi and a smoking booth. Grilled skewers are ¥416 for two and fried chicken ¥647, tax included.
  • Gallery Bar Albatross G — 19:00 to 5:00 the next morning, every day of the year, on Golden Gai's 5th street. It is a gallery bar hanging work by young artists, in a quarter its own site describes as holding nearly 300 bars. Prices, payment methods, the seat count and any cover charge are not published.
  • Sushizanmai Higashi-Shinjuku — 11:00 to 5:00 the next morning, every day of the year, with last orders at 4:30. It stands on the corner where the street meets Shokuan-dori, three minutes from Exit A1 of Higashi-Shinjuku Station, with 72 seats over the ground floor and the basement. The restaurant is non-smoking throughout, fish is sent in daily from Toyosu, and nigiri starts at ¥140 a piece.

The chain's other Shibuya branch, at the Dogenzaka Center Building, closes for good after trading on 3 November 2026, so check which one you are walking to.
  • Oreryu Gyozaro Tokyu Honten-mae — 17:30 to 5:00 every day, with last orders at 4:30, on the second floor of a building on Dogenzaka. Gyoza are ¥200 for three and ¥400 for six, and a set meal of ten with soup, kimchi and rice is ¥1,000. Smoking is allowed and the menu is in Japanese only.
  • AFURI Shibuya Dogenzaka — 11:00 to 5:00 on Friday and Saturday only; from Sunday to Thursday it closes at 23:00. The branch is fully cashless and states that cash cannot be used, and it shuts early when the soup runs out. Prices are not published for this shop.
  • TORIKIZOKU Shibuya Center Gai — until 4:00, and until 5:00 on Friday and Saturday, from 14:00 on weekdays and 13:00 at weekends. It is on the fourth floor of the Center Building in Shibuya Center-gai, with 3 counter seats and 55 table seats. Every food item is ¥410 including tax, and there is an English menu as a PDF.
  • KaraokeKan Ueno No. 2 — 11:00 to 9:00 the next morning, every day, the latest closing time found anywhere in this research. A 30-minute block from 18:00 is ¥385 for members and ¥513 otherwise, with one drink per person; overnight free time from 23:00 to 5:00 is ¥1,700 for members.
  • Karaoke Manekineko has three branches on and around Ueno Chuo-dori open 24 hours, all members only. One membership card for the group is enough, and registration needs one of six accepted identity documents, of which a passport is one. The card is a smartphone app.
  • KaraokeKan Ueno Honten runs 9:00 to 5:00, and to 6:00 on Fridays and Saturdays. BIG ECHO Ueno Ekimae opens 10:00 to 5:00 all year.

Until about 1:00, 2:00 or 3:30

The 1:00 band is where most of Ueno's bar counters sit, and Shinjuku and Shibuya each add venues to it. The closing times below are the ones each venue publishes, with the order cut-offs where they are given.

  • KUSHIKATSU TANAKA Ueno 6-chome — 17:00 to 1:00 from Tuesday to Friday, from 12:00 on Saturday, and to midnight on Monday and Sunday. Skewers run from ¥88 to ¥352 including tax, the menu is printed in three languages, and guests aged 20 or over pay ¥319 each.

  • SAKE BAR UENO SHOJYO — 19:00 to 2:00 from Tuesday to Thursday and 18:00 to 2:00 from Friday to Sunday, closed Mondays. Last entry is midnight and last orders an hour before closing, so arriving at 1:30 is not an option. Seating is an L-shaped counter, with a ¥500 table charge.
  • YAMAUCHI NOUJOU Kabukicho Godzilla Road — 17:00 to 1:00 from Monday to Saturday, and 16:00 to midnight on Sunday, on the fifth floor of a building on Godzilla Road in Kabukicho. The house dish is charcoal-grilled Satsuma Yamauchi jidori, ¥1,758 for 180 g and ¥2,528 for 270 g including tax. There are 72 seats, free Wi-Fi and a smoking booth, and ¥526 per person covers the otoshi.
  • Gallery Bar Albatross — 17:00 to 2:00 the next morning, and to 5:00 on Friday and Saturday, in Omoide Yokocho by the west exit of Shinjuku Station. It has been the only bar in the lane since 1997, with a chandelier hung close overhead and a stated maximum capacity of 45. The Friday and Saturday opening time is given differently by the bar's own site and the Omoide Yokocho page, so check before you go.
  • Gonpachi Shibuya — 11:30 to 3:30 the next morning every day, with last orders at 3:00, on the 14th floor of the E. Space Tower in Maruyamacho. It is a soba restaurant with 224 seats, private rooms and a view over Shibuya, non-smoking throughout, with a minimum charge of ¥1,000 (¥1,100 with tax) per person from 17:00. Because of air-conditioning work it opens only 11:30 to 23:00 from 1 to 5 November 2026.
  • SUSHI Gonpachi Shibuya — 17:00 to 2:00 the next morning every day, with last orders at 1:00, on the same 14th floor. There are 50 seats, no private rooms, and the restaurant is non-smoking, with nigiri from ¥190 before tax and a vegan menu. A per-person minimum applies from 17:00, but the site and the menu give two different amounts, so check on arrival.
  • KUSHIKATSU TANAKA Shibuya Hyakkendana — 17:00 to 1:00 every night, and from 12:00 on Saturday and Sunday, in Hyakkendana five minutes from Exit A0 of Shibuya Station. Skewers run from ¥88 to ¥352 including tax, there are 58 seats and free Wi-Fi, and the menu is printed in English, Chinese and Korean. Guests aged 20 or over pay ¥319 each and must order at least one drink.

Shibuya's two clubs set their hours per event, so there is no fixed closing time to quote

Both clubs publish admission and opening times on each event's own page rather than as weekly hours. That means the figures below describe recent events, not a schedule you can rely on for the night you turn up.

  • WOMB — running in Maruyamacho since 2000, four floors around a main floor that rises as an open atrium through three levels. The late-night events listed on its site run from 23:00 to 4:30 the next morning, but some events start earlier and carry different conditions, which the event page states. Admission is charged per event, re-entry is not permitted, and guests at late-night events must be 20 or over and show photo identification.
  • clubasia — a club and live house in Maruyamacho since 1996, with a stage, drink counters on more than one floor, a terrace area and a lounge floor. Recent events opened at 22:30 or 23:00, and the closing time is not stated anywhere on its site. Admission is per event with a drink charge on top, and night events are for guests aged 20 and over with photo identification.

What closes before the evening really starts

The things people plan an Ueno evening around are the things that shut first. If you land in the afternoon, do these before dinner rather than after it.

  • Temples and shrines close at dusk. At Kaneiji, both Kiyomizu Kannon-do and the Shinobazunoike Benten-do are open 9:00 to 17:00, Ueno Toshogu closes its gate at 16:30 from October to February, and Nezu Shrine's Karamon gate closes at 17:00 in November and December. The exception is Yushima Tenmangu, open 6:00 to 20:00. See shrines and temples.
  • Ueno Park closes at 23:00. The Bureau of Construction of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, which manages the park, gives the hours as 5:00 to 23:00 and states that entry outside them is prohibited. The rowing boats on Shinobazu Pond finish at 17:20 in October and 16:50 from November to February.
  • Ameyoko's daytime shops are not a night attraction. The market's own association states that hours differ from shop to shop, and the Ameyoko Center Building closes at 20:00. The venues above keep their own, later hours.
  • The eel restaurant in the park stops early. Izuei Umegawa-tei, inside Ueno Park, serves dinner from 17:00 to 21:00 with last orders at 20:00, closes on Mondays, and books by telephone only.
  • Game centres run to 23:30. Both Taito Station branches open 10:00 to 23:30 every day, and neither admits anyone under 18 after 22:00. See entertainment.

Read the conditions, not just the closing time

A late closing time only helps if you can get in and pay when you arrive. Four things decide that here: whether the kitchen is still taking orders, whether there is a last entry time, whether cards are accepted, and whether the venue is members only. Ramen Kamo to Negi is open all night but cash only, and SAKE BAR UENO SHOJYO closes at 2:00 but admits nobody after midnight.

Shinjuku adds three conditions that have nothing to do with the closing time. Sushi Tatsu is cash only and shut on Sundays and public holidays, and Kyo Kaiseki KAKIDEN closes at 22:00 but takes its last entry at 19:30. Bar BenFiddich sells its night in three seatings, keeps an irregular schedule announced on the 20th of each month, and cancels a booking if you are 15 minutes late.

In Shibuya two of those conditions point the opposite way. AFURI Shibuya Dogenzaka is fully cashless and states that cash cannot be used, and it closes when the soup runs out rather than at the time on the sign. Oreryu Gyozaro allows smoking and prints its menu in Japanese only, so it is the 5:00 option that asks most of you.

Where a venue publishes two different figures for the same thing, we leave it out rather than choose. That is why no closing day is given for BAR SAMURAI, as our editorial policy explains.

Three Shibuya venues are in the same position. Kaikaya by the sea gives different opening hours and a different closing day on its own pages, SUSHI Gonpachi gives two amounts for its per-person minimum, and Bar Ishinohana gives two sets of Sunday hours. Confirm all three with the venue when you arrive.

Two Shinjuku venues are in the same position. Gallery Bar Albatross has its Friday and Saturday opening time given differently by its own site and by the Omoide Yokocho shopping-street page. SHIROKIYA words its 10% late-night charge two ways in its own grand menu, one page applying it to guests who arrive between 22:00 and 5:00 and the other to guests who place their first order in that window, so ask at the restaurant.
